Biography: About

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

My name is Harriet Stallard and I am a 26 year old. I graduated from the London College of Communication, University of the Arts in June 2019 with a BA in Graphic and Media Design with a First Class Honours degree.

I have a strong rapport for Accessible design and how we can develop the current art and design industry to make it available to everyone no matter on their impairment or disability. From the simplest of things to font size in a LinkedIn post to the use of Braille within public environments.

My passion behind graphic design lies with traditional processes such as Screenprinting, Letterpress and Old School print. I believe that these are still key areas within the industry that can positively impact how we address problems such as accessibility while combining them with new technology.

On the other hand, I am equally as comfortable working with digital based media. Hence the choice of my project
Responsive Portfolio (App Design), which allowed for me to learn something new and expand my knowledge of screen based design as well as using like Adobe XD.

Throughout my career I have combined my digital knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign with the traditional design processes (see Species of Spaces). An example of this was screenprinting a design which I spent a lot of time designing on photoshop and then spending roughly four weeks just practicing and perfecting my final outcome.

I am specifically interested in British avant-garde design, looking at the leading exponents in this field of artwork. I was inspired especially by my cousin, Ian Stallard, who is a famous product designer within Fredrikson Stallard. His work, although very different to my own has allowed me to open up to new ideas and gather inspiration via experimentation.

I decided to focus one of my projects within the area of editorial publication and on the work of Fredrikson Stallard because they are internationally recognised by clients such as Swarovski, Chanel and Veuve Clicquot.

All my experimentation during the early years of my career has given me the confidence to push boundaries of design within the studio/ agency setting. Having the skills and knowledge of the traditional types of design enables me to dive deeper into the possibilities of the different outcomes. Within this website you will be able to see a range of the work that I have produced throughout the past 6 years. Including personal independent projects as well as client briefs.
